Headgroup engineering in mechanosensitive membrane probes

Abstract Systematic headgroup engineering yields planarizable push–pull flipper probes that are ready for use in biology – stable, accessible, modifiable –, and affords non-trivial insights into chalcogen-bond mediated mechanophore degradation and fluorescence enhancement.
