Abstract

In paradox language reaches its limits. Among all forms of language, para- dox is an extreme case, where what it is possible to say turns into its own impossi- bility. Paradoxically this reversal does not signal the end of language but rather one of its forms. However, in paradox the speaking subject is called into question, he loses a measure of control over his language. He is the speaker of its discourse and at the same time he is not. Surprisingly, the intensity of language doesn't de- crease in this situation but rather increases. What about religion – the other aspect of our topic – in this matter? If the old and somehow old-fashioned phenomenon of religion still has something to tell us, it would be this: that it is at the very limits of language that the event of its central speaking takes place.
