Abstract

Di George Syndrome, also known as velo-cardio-facial or 22q11.2 Deletion syndrome has been associated with increased risk (30%) for development of schizophrenia during young adulthood. The aim of the current study is to explore the development of auditory sensory processing in 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2 DS) using high density EEG. The auditory mismatch negativity response, a well-known change detection component, has been reported to decrease in schizophrenia and for individuals at risk of schizophrenia. Auditory evoked potentials were measured in 16 children and 16 adolescents with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, and in 16 healthy children and 18 healthy adolescents, in an oddball paradigm with pure tone stimuli. No marked differences in the mismatch negativity response were seen when comparing children with 22q11.2 DS against healthy children...
