Abstract

We investigated cross-modulation of visual attention by emotional prosody. Particularly, we investigated whether we were able to compromise shifts of attention during an anti-saccade task using angry prosody at short durations (50, 100 and 150ms). The compromise of shifts of attention was measured by the modulation of saccadic response time (SRT). Auditory stimuli consisted of angry and neutral prosody presented in a dichotic way (AN, NA, NN) and was displayed before the anti-saccade task as a cue. Angry prosody was valid, invalid or neutral; it was valid when the angry stimulus was presented on the same side as the saccade and invalid when it was on the opposite side. We found that 100ms stimuli were sufficient to modulate SRT in the validity paradigm, but not 50ms and 150ms stimuli. In a first experiment, invalid stimuli induced slower SRT than valid stimuli. In a second experiment, valid stimuli induced faster SRT than neutral stimuli...
