Transmission electron microscopy investigation of the aluminate sodalite Ca8[Al12O24](WO4)2 at room temperature

Abstract

The microstructure of a ceramic sample of Ca8[Al12O24](WO4)2(CAW) was investigated by means of electron diffraction, high resolution and dark field electron microscopy. Different orientation variants as well as antiphase domains (translation variants) were observed. The identification of the symmetry operations characterizing the domain boundaries together with group theoretical considerations allowed the determination of the space group of the parent phase (Im3m.
