Abstract

Therefore, in this thesis, the problem of banknote authentication on mobile phones is addressed, so as to determine what kind of performance is achievable. The contribution of this thesis consists in (1) the analysis of the variability of Swiss banknotes, and (2) the proposal and analytical performance assessment of four different feature extraction methods. One of the proposed methods achieved a perfect separability between genuine and fake banknotes on a set consisting of 82 banknotes. Moreover, this method represents an interesting contribution to research because it is not denomination-specific.
