The Balcony Scene in Romeo and Juliet, one of the most famous scenes in all dramatic literature, might be expected to have been fully analysed and annotated by the play's numerous editors. Yet there is a striking loose end that has never received the attention it deserves for which this article proposes an editorial solution.
