Abstract

A critical analysis of two recent books by Vincent Descombes, where he criticizes contemporary Cartesian and materialistic theories of the mind from a neo-Wittgensteinian standpoint. Contrary to what he claims, neither holism nor externalism can be incompatible with a causalist view of the mental and a more sophisticated form of naturalism.
