Publication date2000
Abstract

First occurrence of the foraminifer Colaniella Likharev in the Upper Permian from the Sosio Valley (Sicily). The foraminifers Colaniella ex gr. parva (Colani) and Colaniella ex gr. minima (Wang) are described for the first time in Late Permian calcarenitic sediments of the Pietra di Salomone (Sosio Valley, Sicily). These species, also recognised in redeposited intervals of the Triassic Monte Facito Formation (Southern Apennine, Lagonegro Basin), are here illustrated for the first time. Their simultaneous presence indicates a Midian to Dzhulfian possibly Dorashamian? age. The age of the redeposition of the calcarenites and calcirudites, in Sicily and in Southern Apennine, is consequently Latest Permian (Dorashamian), or younger.
