Douleurs chroniques et dépression: un aller-retour ?

Published in Revue médicale suisse. 2009, vol. 5, no. 208, p. 1364-1369
Abstract Chronic pain and depression are frequently associated. Links between them are numerous and well documented. It is known for example that depression is associated with a greater number and higher intensity of pain symptoms. Similarly the presence of pain complicates the diagnostic evaluation and aggravates the prognosis of depression. The question of the causality link has no clear answer. Taking care of these patients implies to acknowledge the different aspects of their suffering in a holistic bio-psycho-social model. Treatment or medication, for instance antidepressants, should be a post-scriptum to the construction of a therapeutic relationship.
