Landscape and Territoriality - In this article the author has attempted to distinguish between the two concepts of -landscape— and —territoriality- by showing that they are not based on the same epistemological fundaments. The concept of landscape originates from what is - seen - («the seen»), whereas the concept of territoriality originates from what is — lived - («the lived»). He has endeavoured to make this distinction through a semiological approach. Classical geographers hâve mainly explored the geography of landscape while today geographers are trying to introduce a geography of territoriality. Territoriality could be defined as the complète range of relationships an individual is led to establish with his environment (sensu lato) as a member of a community. The geography of territoriality is emerging and tends to complète, if not to replace, the geography of landscape.
