Abstract

Memory retrieval is impaired at very low (e.g., under the cortisol synthesis inhibitor) and also at very high (e.g., during stress or due to the circadian rhythm) levels of cortisol (Lupien et al. (2007)). Previously, Rimmele et al. (2010) showed that 3000mg of the cortisol synthesis inhibitor metyrapone fully suppressed the morning rise in cortisol levels. Consequently, the 3000mg of metyrapone impaired free recall of both neutral and emotional stimuli. Similarly,Marin et al. (2011) showed that 2 x 750mg metyrapone impaired memory retrieval specifically of emotional information...
