Measurement of the quadratic magnetoelectric effect on single crystalline BiFeO3

Abstract

By using the quadratic magnetoelectric effect the components of the nonlinear magnetoelectric susceptibility tensor bijk of the antiferromagnetic ferroelectric ferroelastic phase of BiFeO3 have been determined at 4 K as: b111 = 5.0 * 10-19, b113 = 8.1 * 10-19, b311 = 0.3 * 10-19, b333 = 2.1 * 10-19 [s/A].
