Abstract A Raman investigation performed on the rose center in RF2 (R = Ca, Sr, Ba) shows that its structure is (YO2R)2+. This cluster has almost in-band vibrations moderately coupled to the lattice in CaF2 and almost totally localized modes in BaF2.
