Abstract

Objectives: Microsleeps (MS), short episodes of sleep (lasting 3-15 seconds) are related to insufficient sleep and daytime sleepiness. The purpose of this study was to explore possible ways of integrating Microsleeps in a typical Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) and determine if it improves association with daytime sleepiness. More precisely we wanted to explore what the benefit would be if in a typical MWT test we added the scoring of Microsleeps and calculated the Microsleep Latency as an additional parameter when evaluating Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) patients and their level of sleepiness.
