Study of the intermediate Jahn-Teller system La2+ in CaF2 by Raman and EPR spectroscopy

Abstract

New low-temperature vibronic Raman and EPR (under stress) spectra on CaF2:La2+ are reported. The experimental data are interpreted as indicating the presence of an intermediate E(X) epsilon type of Jahn-Teller coupling. The lowest vibronic state is approximately=15 cm-1 below the top of the angular barrier.
