Abstract The use of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has been associated with a marked decrease in the prevalence of opportunistic infections in HIV-infected patients. However, chronic mucocutaneous herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection remains a difficult clinical challenge.
