RÉSUMÉ. Cette étude concerne deux collections de poteries domestiques et rituelles provenant des ethnies Fon et Gun du Sud-Bénin. Ses buts sont de montrer quelle est la corrélation entre une taxonomie et une typologie, de décrire les différences entre poterie domestique et rituelle et de définir les critères distinguant la céramique de deux ethnies. Elle emprunte ses méthodes à l'archéologie préhistorique. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG. In dieser Arbeit werden zwei Sammlungen von Gebrauchs- sowie Ritualkeramik der Stämme Fon und Gun aus dem Süd-Benin untersucht. Im Vordergrund steht dabei die Abklärung der Beziehung zwischen Taxonomie und Typologie, das Herausarbeiten der Unterschiede zwischen den beiden Keramikarten, sowie die Definition der ethnischen Charakteristiken. Die Untersuchungsmethoden wurden von der prähistorischen Archäologie übernommen. SUMMARY. In this study two collections of utilitarian and ritual pottery of the tribes Fon and Gun (South Benin) are examined. The principal purpose consists in investigating the correlation between taxonomy and typology, in describing the differences between the two kinds of pottery and in working out the distinctive traits according to ethnic provenience. The methods were adopted from prehistoric archaeology.
