Motor preparation network and related structures were extensively studied in healthy subjects but not so much in schizophrenic patients and, this, despite the numerous findings on related-motor deficit. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, we investigated the motor preparatory processes in eighteen schizophrenic patients and nineteen healthy subjects. We used a motor delayed reaction time paradigm with visual cues as preparatory and response signal. Three distinct conditions related to the type of information on the movement to perform and the presence of a delay period between the preparatory and the trigger signal were tested.Comparisons were made between the BOLD signal for each condition and for each group.
