Abstract According to the Comparison of Arixtra in Lower Limb Superficial Vein Thrombosis with Placebo (CALISTO) study, a recent randomized, controlled trial, prophylactic fondaparinux can prevent thrombotic complications following superficial vein thrombosis (SVT). The cost-effectiveness of this treatment remains to be determined.
