Radiolarians extracted from cherts of the Monte Facito Formation auct. are middle Triassic (Anisian-Ladinian) in age. This age is older than that previously established for the differentiation between basins in Western Tethys and emphasizes the long duration of that type of deposit in Lagonegro. The joint sedimentological study of these deposits indicates a turbiditic origin in a lectonically active environment rather than in a quiet basin with patch-reefs as previously proposed.
