Oro-facial impairment in stroke patients

Abstract

A total of thirty-one patients suffering from stroke-related hemiparesis were recruited from the Division of Neurorehabilitation in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University Hospitals of Geneva (Switzerland). The control group consisted of 24 subjects who were similar in age, gender and dental state. The investigated parameters were: chewing efficiency, maximum voluntary bite force, maximum lip restraining force, masseter muscle thickness, facial asymmetry, OHRQoL and hand-grip strength as a control parameter.
