Abstract

1. Ionic contents and sodium, potassium and chloride effluxes have been measured in the metacarpal vein of the flying-fox.

2. The cellular chloride content was small and changed according to passive forces only.

3. The ionic fluxes, and especially the potassium efflux, were rapid when compared to other spontaneously active veins of comparable size.
