Abstract

Located in northeastern Bulgaria, the Historical and Archaeological Reserve of Sboryanovo covers more than 800 hectares and contains exceptionally rich archaeological remains. The Iron Age evidence points to the existence of a major political, economic, and religious centre, probably the capital of the Getic Kingdom. In addition to these remains, the site preserves evidence of human occupation spanning from the end of the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages. In 2016, an Early Bronze Age burial was excavated at the site. This study presents the results of strontium isotope ratio analysis conducted to reconstruct the residential history of the buried individual. It represents the first application of this method to human remains from Sboryanovo and forms part of a broader research program investigating all human remains recovered from the archaeological reserve.
