Abstract

This collective thesis explores how the opening and activation of a heritage estate can transform it into a strategic lever of urban repair in the face of contemporary vulnerabilities.

Through the case of the Campagne-Masset in Geneva – a private estate at the heart of a dense and fragmented neighborhood – the study shows how an exclusive heritage site can be reimagined as a landscape commons, fostering connection, territorial care, and socio-environmental justice. Already integrated in 1935 into Bodmer and Braillard’s park network, the parcel has, since the 1980s, been the object of repeated but unsuccessful public acquisition attempts. In a city confronted both with the arrival of new populations and with the urgency of climate adaptation, these collective projections, reaffirmed in 2024, reveal not only enduring interest but also the tensions surrounding scarce land resources whose protective status prevents their development.

Grounded in a collaborative and narrative-driven territorial analysis, this research-through-design proposes light-touch pathways of transformation for this exceptional “already-there.” Its aim is to let a shared vision emerge: a park conceived as an essential piece of neighborhood infrastructure, standing at the intersection of memory and possible futures.
