Dermatophytosis represents one of the most widespread public health concerns globally. These infections, caused by dermatophytes, affect the skin, nails, and hair of millions of people each year, particularly in warm and humid regions where fungal

spore transmission is facilitated. Trichophyton species are by far the most frequently implicated, with T. mentagrophytes/interdigitale, T. rubrum/soudanense, and T. tonsurans being the primary pathogens responsible for human infections. Dermatophytosis can affect a wide range of populations, including young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals—such as those living with HIV or undergoing immunosuppressive therapy.
