Abstract

In 2017, the City of Geneva, along with various associations and citizen groups, embarked on a joint effort to develop a park project at la Pointe de la Jonction. These years of collaboration led to numerous tensions between the different stakeholders and highlighted the difficulty of reaching a shared vision for the park. Accommodating a wide variety of uses and offering a unique environment, la Pointe distinguishes itself through its singularity and subversive character. Building from this context, this work proposes to revisit the park project through an alternative approach, offering a new diagnostic framework to recontextualize la Pointe. It also offers an in-depth exploration of the evolution of urban parks and their role within urban planning practices. Structured in a parallel narrative, these two perspectives examine what an urban park can be today by engaging with themes such as storytelling, imagination, genius loci and the lived experience. Framed as an urban planning study, this work adopts a specific writing approach that allows for the integration of elements drawn from lived experience, calling upon sensitivity and perceptions of space. The study concludes by proposing key directions for the future development of the park at la Pointe.
