Abstract

Prevalence of elderly patients with end-stage kidney disease has increased. Implementation of dialysis does not offer a clear advantage in terms of life expectancy and quality of life compared to a conservative treatment in these patients, especially in emergency and in those with severe comorbidities. The choice between dialysis and supportive care should be based on a shared decision-making process between the patient, his family and the caregivers.
