This article is the written and revised version of a paper I delivered on August 13, 2023 at the Wordsworth Summer Conference (August 7 - 17 2023), held at Rydal Hall, Cumbria (UK). In this paper, I examine the notions of aesthetic attention and literary legacy in Wordsworth's Guide to the Lakes (1835) and how Romantic, specifically Wordsworthian themes have been passed down and adapted in Taylor Swift's song "the lakes" (2020), which she wrote about her own tour of the Lake District. I show that what connects the two works is an ethos of appraisal of retirement that coexists with a sense of communal sympathy.
