The phenomenon of funerary megalithic architecture in the Levant presents a variety of building techniques and morphologies characteristic of the region. This diversity brings inherent complexity in the definitions and classifications of megalithic monuments. The reasons for these difficulties lie in terminological and typological divergences across different cultures and epochs. By adopting a comparative approach between research conducted in Europe and the Levant, this study highlights the main obstacles faced by archaeologists working on megalithic monuments in the Levant, particularly in terms of classification and semantics. Trans-regional co-operation is therefore crucial, offering a solution to achieving more inclusive definitions and a better understanding of Levantine megalithic architecture.
