Abstract

Plant micropropagation has an outstanding place in plant biotechnology and can be applied to the production of many plants from herbaceous to hardwood species, including those of interest in mountain areas. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi form mutualistic associations with roots of many cultivated plants and can act as biofertilizers, bioprotectors and bioregulators. The fitness of micropropagated plants could be greatly increased by exploiting these symbiotic fungi, so ensuring their successful introduction into mountain production areas of low chemical input.
