Abstract

Solid-contaction-selectiveelectrodeswiththinmembranescan moreeasilyachievecompleteion ex-changeat the sample-membraneinterface,givingun-biasedselectivitycoefficients.The calculatedrecondition-ingratecorrespondswellto experimentaldata.Alternatively,the redoxstateof the conductingpolymermaybe electrochemicallyswitchedresultingin primaryion expulsionfromthe membraneand interferingionuptakefromthe sample.Bothapproachesweretestedfortetrabutylammonium-selectiveelectrodes.The approach’slimitationsare identified,whichincludesprimaryionsimpuritiesin interferingion saltsandan interactionbetweenprimaryion and redoxpolymer.Theselimita-tionsare visualizedwithionophore-basedsodium-andsilver-selectiveelectrodes.
