Abstract

This case-report explores the application of AI-assisted design in the fabrication of 3D- printed occlusal splints, compared to conventional human design. A single patient received two Michigan-type splints—one designed by AI software and the other by a dental technician—both manufactured using the same 3D printer, resin, and post- processing protocol. Key variables assessed included design time, occlusal adjustment time, clinical fit (gingival adaptation, retention, tilting), and patient satisfaction after one week. Both splints showed comparable clinical fit and retention, with no significant difference in patient satisfaction. However, the AI-designed splint required significantly less time for both design and adjustment, demonstrating its potential to streamline clinical workflows without compromising outcome quality. Further clinical research with larger sample sizes is necessary to validate these findings and assess long-term outcomes
