A soil observation network GEOS is established in Geneva canton, with the purpose of long term monitoring of pollutants and allround fertility factors. The 102 sites of this network cover cultivated land and forests. Results of the analysis of samples collected at 4 different depths, down to 80 cm every 20 cm, were interpreted by mapping. It appears that, in certain regions, cadmium may be of geological origin, a tendency to chromium and zinc accumulation in the superficial layers and the relatively high level of phosphorus in the top layers of cultivated soils may result from prolonged agrochemical inputs. Otherwise, in accordance with previous observations, high copper pollution in vineyards, geological origin of high nickel levels and ubiquity of lead, are observed. Integrated crop management techniques are expected to contribute to the improvement of the observed tendencies.
