Interaction between photoexcited aqua-uranyl (VI) and perchlorate

Abstract

In sufficient concentrations, perchlorate is found to produce a decrease in the decay and an exaltation of the luminescence of aqueous acidic solutions of uranyl. This is shown to be due to the excited-state interaction between excited uranyl and perchlorate, giving a complex in which the oxidative activity of the UO2+2 moiety towards water is diminished.
