Nonlocality versus entanglement in quantum theory

Abstract

This thesis is devoted to the study of the link between quantum entanglement and Bell nonlocality. Quantum entanglement is a phenomenon with no classical analogue, that allows separate physical systems to behave as if they were part of a single system, whereas Bell non-locality formalises the type of correlations between distant systems that cannot be explained by common cause and local causality.

Quantum entanglement is the only resource known in nature to give rise to nonlocal correlations, and this thesis develops a method for determining which entangled states cannot give rise to such correlations. The complementary resource of measurement incompatibility is studied from the same angle, as well as some questions of nonlocality activation beyond the standard Bell scenario.
