Abstract

The impact of editorial mediation is easily missed by readers who have no expertise in editing. This chapter makes visible the often-invisible editorial mediation of Shakespeare by distinguishing between and exploring the repercussions of thirteen different kinds of editorial intervention. It shows that editors have a massive influence on the way modern readers engage with Shakespeare’s plays.
