X-irradiation of single crystals of triphenylgermane yields the triphenylgermyl radical (C₆H₅)₃ Ge. The ⁷³Ge hyperfine coupling parameters show that, as expected, the radical is non-planar and similar to (C₆H₅)₃ Si and (C₆H₅)₃ P⁺. Quadrupole coupling effects were not observed showing that, as expected, the quadrupole coupling constant is small. On standing a further unidentified germanium-centered radical slowly appears whose ESR parameters are also given.
