Abstract

The quantum-statistical expression for the entropy production has been used as a starting point for the description of spin relaxation. The development of this formulation leads to another relation for the entropy production σ, which is given in terms of a quantum correlation function over a dissipation operator Ψd. The latter is connected with the flux operator and the generalised force, as in the classical alternative. The final molecular expression for the phenomenological coefficient Lii yields the same value of the relaxation rate 1/T1, as obtained by other methods, using different starting points.
