Abstract

The starting point for this master’s thesis is the notion of both degrowth and the Economy of Life that one of the root causes for the numerous current crises is the economic and capitalist system which is inherently based on growth. As there are only very few encounters, a qualitative content analysis is undertaken to compare both approaches. Questions are in how far both align, where they differ from each other, where blank spots can be seen, and not least, how approaches for a way forward can look. Supported by the program MaxQDA, the analysis findings show that both approaches align very well, and thus they can be seen as “two sides of the same coin.” Yet, the analysis also shows that both approaches have blind spots that could be filled by engaging with each other. As a cooperation between them, hence, seems to be promising, the final part sketches ideas for a way forward.
