Abstract

The Eastern Pontides and the Lesser Caucasus are the well-known orogenic belts of the Tethyan Metallogenic Belt (TMB) which are the the continuation from one another and are associated with a similar geodynamic setting. The Artvin District of the Eastern Pontides and the Bolnisi District of the Lesser Caucassus are the prominent mining districts which host numerous mineral systems, including porphyry Cu-Mo, precious metal epithermal, and volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits and occurrences. These minerals systems are resulting from the successive northward subduction of the northern branch of the Neotethys Ocean during Mesozoic and to a collision and post-collision setting during the latest Cretaceous and Cenozoic.
