Does Ecological Connectivity Analysis Fit The Practitioner’s Needs?

Abstract

Connectivity is a key conservation goal which has to be incorporated in the conservation planning of mobile species because it reflects the capacity of landscape to facilitate or impede the movement of organisms. When informing practitioners about connectivity, researchers need to be cautious as it is a complicated topic and the theoretical and methodological framework is not yet unified between ecologists. With the aim to help biological conservation practitioners, I first answered the question of what is the best level of complexity of connectivity analyses to inform: (1) the spatial conservation prioritization process undertaken by the Canton of Geneva to design their green infrastructure (GI); and (2), the monitoring of red deer at the scale of the Swiss Plateau. Then, I responded to the question about how the results of the ecological models produced can be best presented to stakeholders.
