Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by single-celled eukaryotic pathogen Toxoplasma gondii, that can have serious consequences in utero or in immunosuppressed patients. Approximately one third of the world population is chronically infected, the parasite persisting for lifetime as cysts in brain and smooth muscle. The symptomatic phase of the disease is due to the fast-replicating T. gondii tachyzoites. The tachyzoite replication cycle in human is well described and molecular players have been identified. However, the last step of the cytokinesis remains completely enigmatic. Here, we functionally characterized the tubulin-binding cofactor C-domain containing 1 (TBCCD1) and reported that depletion of this protein causes an inability of daughter cells to efficiently separate. Using TBCCD1 as a bait, we perform an immunoprecipitation in order to find binding partners which could help us to identify new molecular players of late cytokinesis in T. gondii.
