Spin Hamiltonian of Cr3+ in a Strained Ruby Crystal

Abstract

As an application of the theory of the ligand field in a strained corundum crystal previously published, the spin Hamiltonian of Cr3+ in strained ruby is written down. Numerical calculations are performed, which show that the effect of the internal strains is by no means negligible.
