L’expansion du parc pénitentiaire genevois du XIXe siècle à aujourd’hui

Publication date2023-11-08
Abstract

Since the 19th century, Geneva’s penitentiary policy consists of increasing the number of detention places to reduce the occupancy rate of custodial facilities. However, whilst the size of the penitentiary estate keeps growing, overcrowding persists – with no change in discourse and strategy from the executive power. This observation raises questions about the expansionist policy rationale which has been followed in Geneva for more than two hundred years now.
