It is observed that one of the less-explored aspects of the cento Christus Patiens (Χριστὸς Πάσχων) is the influence of the New Testament apocryphal writings and the modes of intertextual appropriation that the author has employed to amalgamate the classical text on which it is based (Euripides) with Christian material surrounding the passion of Christ. While some critics have brought this issue to the discussion table by highlighting various sources (Starowieyski: 1994; Swart: 1994), there is currently no in-depth and systematic analysis that accounts for the use of apocryphal texts alongside canonical ones and the compositional techniques employed to construct the Christian content of the text. Therefore, our objective is to present the progress of research on this issue and contribute to an overarching understanding of the cento genre.
