What more can be said about the crucifixion of Jesus? Over and above the many religious interpretations given to it by early Christianity, the aim of this contribution is above all historical. What do we know about crucifixion, as it was so frequently practiced in Roman times, and the symbolism associated with it? What can we say about the crucifixion of Jesus in particular? And last but not least, why was Jesus condemned to this death?
