Abstract

The present research discusses the topic of Swiss national languages and the four Swiss linguistic communities. It deals with varied subjects related to the main topic, such as multilingualism in Switzerland, the status of each national language, the use of Swiss national languages in the country's administration as well as in education, language contact particularly in bilingual and trilingual regions of Switzerland, varities of each national language and the status of national minority languages. The main objective of the research is to observe and analyse Swiss people’s attitudes towards and thoughts about the previously mentioned topics regarding the national languages of Switzerland. In order to achieve this objective, semi-structured interviews were carried out with 13 participants, which come from the four national language communities and from different cantons, including the bilingual and trilingual ones.
