Abstract

This work presents new insights into the inter-crustal tectonic and volcanic behaviours of central Costa Rica, and proposes a detailed image of the Irazu ́-Turrialba volcanic complex magmatic architecture. The aim of this project is to better comprehend the exchange between seismicity and volcanic processes across multiple-scales. We use passive seismic methods to image the subsurface structures through ambient noise and local earthquake tomography. We also examine the relationship between earthquakes and neotectonics that will improve our greater understanding of the anatomy and kinematics of volcanism and tectonics in this continental arc region.
