Sky luminance data validation: Comparison of seven models with four data banks

Abstract

In order to insure the comparability of the data acquired within the International Daylight Measurement Program, we made a preliminary investigation on the behavior of four daylight data banks when compared with the predictions of seven sky luminance distribution models. We present, in this study, the results of these comparisons, focusing on the performance of the models depending on the site of measurements, the position of the point source of light within the sky, and the weather conditions. We obtain on the whole very similar results, independently of the instrument and the site of measurement, even with limited data banks that cannot be taken as representative of the various climates.
